Busy Spring Ahead

Not only is there new green growth--there's spring activity among humans here too. Master Gardeners of Kitsap County will take a tour on 3/15; the WA Native Plant Society's Olympic chapter will visit on 4/17. Volunteer WORK PARTIES start up on April 1, 9 am-12--join us! (2024 schedule soon to be posted below.) And please support us as part of your generosity in Kitsap's Great Give, April 16.

Ribes sanguineum (red-flowering currant)

At the south entrance to the Buck Lake Native Plant Garden, the path is flanked on both sides by cultivars of beautiful Ribes sanguineum.

Arctostaphyllos uva-ursi (kinnikinnick)

One of the Northwest's most attractive and well-known all-season ground covers, Arctostaphyllos ura-ursi grows in a variety of settings.

Trillium ovatum (western trillium)

Trillium ovatum, Western trillium, needs conditions of light to dappled shade and a moist, but well-drained, humus-rich soil to thrive.

Upcoming Events

Join us for garden work parties on the first and third Monday of each month through October, 9am-noon. Dig, prune, learn! All are welcome.

Plan to visit the Buck Lake Native Plant Garden located at 6959 Buck Lake Rd,
(in Buck Lake Park), Hansville, WA

The Buck Lake Native Plant Garden is designed to show how easily and beautifully native plants can be integrated into the home landscape. The garden features plants native to Southern British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and Northern California, west of the mountains. Divided into various areas and planted accordingly, visitors will find moist, shady beds, a hedgerow, a sunny meadow, a semi-shady birch grove, a seasonal streambed and an extensive rain garden.

Since 2006, the BLNPG has been developed by a group of Kitsap County Master Gardeners, local garden club members, and other interested Greater Hansville area residents.

Anyone with an interest in gardening and conservation is encouraged to join our group to learn about native plants and their benefits to our local wildlife. Work parties are held on the first and third Mondays of April through October.
