Sedum oreganum
Evergreen
Groundcovers

A beautiful groundcover and rock garden plant, Sedum oreganum has tight rosettes of shiny, succulent, green leaves, reminiscent of a tiny jade plant. The foliage is about 3" tall and the bright yellow flowers, which appear in the summer, are held on stems a few inches above the foliage. Commonly known as Oregon stonecrop, it is found in the wild from British Columbia to Northern California in well-drained soil on coastal bluffs and rocky areas. Oregon stonecrop prefers a sunny location and is intolerant of over-watering. In the fall, the leaves can take on a reddish tinge, when the plant is grown in lean, dry soil.

You will find large drifts of Oregon stonecrop throughout the Buck Lake garden.

The Kwakiuti called the leaves "Crow's Strawberries," and consumed them cooked.
