The Story of Remembrance Place
Remembrance Place is a peaceful, quiet spot that allows visitors to rest, contemplate the surrounding garden, and remember gardening friends no longer with us.
In 2008-09, Hansville's Flotsam & Jetsam Garden Club sought a permanent location where engraved stones could be placed for its members who had recently passed away. A committee consisting of Gretchen Lee, Mary Booth, and Pat Fredricks set to work, and eventually gave the Garden Club a choice of three locations. The Garden Club elected the Buck Lake Native Plant Garden. Many Native Plant Garden volunteers were (and are today) members of the Garden Club.
The BLNPG designated a place within the garden, and the Garden Club provided funds for a lovely bench and side chair. Gretchen Lee worked with Smith & Hawkins to procure the teak outdoor furniture, and oversaw the installation.
Jim Stemen, a Garden Club member and also a Native Garden volunteer, installed and faithfully maintained the furniture until recently.
Signage was added in 2018 to mark the Garden Club's fiftieth anniversary.
