Sidalcea hendersonii, Henderson's checkermallow, sometimes called marsh hollyhock or checkerbloom, blooms in early summer with 1'-5' tall spikes of pink flowers. In the wild, it inhabits coastal tidal marshes and meadows from southern British Columbia to southern Oregon, although it is no longer commonly seen. Checkered mallow prefers full sun. In the Buck Lake Native Plant Garden, it blooms in the rain garden at the north entrance, mixed with yellow monkeyflower Checkermallow is actively visited by bees and butterflies.
