Mitella breweri, a small woodland plant in the Saxifragaceae family, makes a beautiful perennial ground cover. It grows in moist meadows, by streams, and in mountain forests, preferring shade. In spring to summer it sends up spikes of small greenish flowers, but the real pleasure for gardeners lies in its pretty green foliage and its dense habit that shades out weeds.
In the Buck Lake Native Plant Garden it lines the walkway of the South Entrance.
