Polytrichum juniperinum
Mosses
This beautiful moss grows in every continent including Antarctica. Each plant consists of an upright stem with leaves that are rigid and sharply pointed like evergreen needles.
A colony of juniper haircap moss looks like a tiny forest of juniper sprigs. They're generally found packed together as a mat, or else growing closely to one another. This species is dioecious--that is, it has male and female plants, which have different reproductive structures.
